scenes from sunday

we had an excellent dinner last night at the Hotel Ambassador, but Randy, I promise we will go check out the other places. this morning we lounged around for a while, I tried to write a bit, but am stuck with how to proceed with part two of the Republic chapter....(trying to work with this self-mastery and harmony dynamic)

then we did a nice long practice (the Friday night sequence with some additional hip opening to help with simasana). we were trying to find the shop Arnav and walked a long way looking for it, past some less than safe areas, and were somewhat lost (we did follow mommy-ji's advice about direction asking, but it doesn't always help) then took a detour into a temple on a really large hill and that must have changed our wandering luck because after a bit more of a walk, were about to give up and take a rickshaw home and I happened to turn around and see crosswords bookstore. it was just a lovely experience. we bought several novels and many dvds to entertain ourselves, not that we are doing a bad job with it on our own, but last night Christina was so desperate to watch something that she looked through all 1800 slides on my i photo library and listened to my commentary about Greek art and architecture and various philosophers. I also had a mochacino and a frozen one as well (which is what I meant to order the first time, but rather than send it back, I just got another one), so I'm pretty high on sugar and caffeine right now.

simon gave us directions home from crosswords after Christina asked him, "where are we?" which was more of an existential inquiry than a metaphysical one.

Anyway, the western civilization fix was much needed and now we have escapist books and films as well to help with our Pune panic that sometimes sets in when we venture out....

update on wildlife; there was a herd of sheep grazing in the empty field and we saw something that looked very much like a wild boar or at least a havelina.

Anzy,

Your post, Socretes and Sequences, made me think about the following:

(1) The most dangerous persons in the world are those who don't know what they don't know.

(2) From Mark Twain, a similar statement - "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."

(3) Mark Twain again - "All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure."

You comment that progress in yoga (as in any other disciplines) often requires us to let go of or give up something we once held to be true fits the above introductory comments, at least in my mind. Also, see my post to Christina's blog.

We spent most of the past week moving Grandmartha from the Clary Center in Toccoa to Donna Hart's facility between Lavonia and Carnesville. Donna keeps no more than six elderly women in her super nice and large home. She is a registered nurse. She and her staff provide excellent support, both physical and emotional, to the ladies.

Grandmartha fell at least three times that we know of in the past month. She refused to ask for help and would get up at night and fall. We suspect she fell many other times because Donna noticed that three of Grandmartha's toes had been broken. These injuries were never reported to us.

Grandmartha's dementia appears to be accelerating. Andrea would not have been able to go on our Baltic Cruise in August if Grandmartha remained at Clary.

You very well know that once Andrea makes up her mind on a course of action, she can become a force of nature. She gave Grandmartha no choice in the matter of moving, even though Grandmartha in a thorougly uncharacteristic fashion was verbally abusive to Andrea.

Andrea moved Grandmartha to Donna's facility with one large suitcase of clothes. Rich and I moved Grandmartha' big reclining chair and TV, and her mother's cedar chest. The next day, Joyce and Andrea began clearing out Grandmartha's room at Clary. You have no idea the amount of junk the woman had accummulated. Joyce found serval Pinson-related items that she wanted for Courtney and Andy. Rich and I filled their Tahoe with these items. Kelly and I filled my and Bobby McMurray's pick up trucks with a slew of other items, some of which were trashed, given to the Habitat Thrift Store, or brought to our basement. The following day, Andrea and I were back at Clary for another pick up truck load.

Bottom line: Andrea did the heavy emotional lifting; Kelly, Rich, and I did the heavy physical lifting. My emotional input focused on two areas: Supporting/comforting Andrea and decrying the amount of stuff, mostly worthless, in Grandmartha's room.

Anyway, Grandmartha has been moved. Donna doesn't want us to contact Grandmartha until Wednesday. Donna figures she will need this much time for bonding to take place between her and Grandmartha.

I found that my late afternoon martinis took on added medicinal properties during this period.

A funny, while Kelly and I moved things into our basement: "Mike is most of this stuff in your basement what Christina, Anne-Mare and I will throw away when we move you and Andrea to San Marcos?" I began reorganizing/clearing out the basement today.

Keep those posts coming.

Love and blessings,

The Frosolono Patriarch
